Channels

Channel — is a metal product with U-shaped section, manufactured from a hot workpiece on a section mill.

Depending on the material used, there are steel and aluminum channels (GOST 535-88).

Roll-formed steel channels

Roll-formed steel channels are manufactured according to GOST 11474-76 on roll-forming machines from cold- and hot-rolled steel, high quality structural carbon steel and low alloy steel.

The appearance of a roll-formed channel differs from a hot-rolled one, as it has a rounded outer corner.

Roll-formed steel channels can be equal and non-equal. Schedules are the following:

• For equal channels — acc. to GOST 8278-89;
• For non-equal channels — acc. to GOST 8281-80.

The number of channel fits its diameter in mm.

Hot-rolled steel channels

Hot-rolled steel channels are manufactured acc. to GOST 535-88 and can be square or tapered: 10, 10P, etc. A taper angle should not exceed 10%. The schedule conforms to GOST 8240-89.

Depending on rolling accuracy the following channels are manufactured:

• Channels of high accuracy — B;
• Channels of standard accuracy — C.

Special types of hot-rolled steel channels are:

• For car industry — GOST 19425-74 (18S, 20S, etc.);
• For rail carriage building — GOST 5267.1-90 (8V,14V, 18V).

Channels are supplied cut-to-length acc. to GOST 535-88.
